San Tan Charter defeated Desert Ridge (72-32) and Chaparral (78-37) on Tuesday to win its qualifier bracket and advance to the weekend tournament of the 2024 Section 7. The Roadrunners will play in the AZ Athletic Grounds Bracket and open play on Friday against Riverside Poly (CA), 5:00 PM at State Farm Stadium (Court 10) in Glendale.

For the second year in a row the Roadrunners took care of business in the qualifier bracket to advance to the weekend. Following its opening round win on Monday over Copper Canyon (61-13), the Roadrunners defense overwhelmed both Desert Ridge and Chaparral, holding its opponents to an average of 27.3 points over the three games. The high scoring attack featured throughout the 2023-24 season broke out on Tuesday, including a 3-point barrage and 27 points from sophomore guard Peyton Lubash in the championship game against Chaparral. The Roadrunners also saw incoming freshman Kaii Voogd add 17 points against the Firebirds as several players shined throughout a great team effort.

San Tan advances to the weekend tournament once again and look to build on last year's 6-1 record in the 2023 section 7. Friday's opponent, the Riverside Poly Bears, are based out of Riverside, California, and play in Southern California's Division 1 Ivy Conference. They are coming off an 18-14 overall record in 2023-24 and lost to eventual Division 1 Southern Section Champion Notre Dame in the second round of the playoffs (65-53). The Roadrunners return several top players from its 2023-24 State Championship team that will be playing at this weekend's tournament, including Lubash, the 2024 2A Player of the Year, seniors Zaire Richardson and Kylen Bonner, juniors Will Gordon and Kristo Jackson, and sophomore Jase Benjamin. The team has also added junior Jachin Reynolds, sophomore Dylan Vargas, and three incoming freshman, Voogd, Davis Mason and Bryce Whiting.
